It is important to remember that although the photographs are black and white, the viewer must keep themselves from thinking in black and white only when viewing the various articles of clothing. There is no way to be sure what colours the fabrics were in any given picture, so we may venture into virtual colouring later...

Oliver IRVING opened a tailor shop in a small building along Main Street around 1900.

Arnot MACGREGOR wrote:

"I doubt Mr. IRVING owned the residence, shop, and stable in the rear. He came from England, bringing with him a large quantity of twist and as a result received the name of 'Oliver Twist'. On arrival, he operated his shop for a short period in the small brick house next to the MACGREGOR store. He then moved his business to the building near Isaac YORK's residence. In time he married Minnie DILLABOUGH, daughter of Henry. I have never been able to forget either his nick name or my first suit with long trousers. Father had given him the cloth that he butchered instead of tailoring it - I have always called the finished product 'My Twist Suit'"

Jerome LATOUR's oldest son - Jerome left the village for Chicago where he became an expert designer of women's clothing.
