War and Remembrance
The most important section of this site.

Here, we will attempt to put real people behind those names on the cenotaph.

Far too many people don't take the few moments to reflect on Remembrance Day about those who made a great sacrifice to ensure we had a chance to live a peaceful life today.

There will be more information added about the cenotaph itself, the sculptor, and the unveiling.

Unfortunately, one name not on the cenotaph was Maurice O. CHENEY, son of R. D. (Deckster) CHENEY. His Attestation Papers: Page 1 | Attestation Papers: Page 2 can be found on the National Archives Website - showing his place of birth as Morewood, Ontario. Private Cheney... VIMY MEMORIAL

Hugh Carlyle MOFFAT was one of those names. You can see a few of the artifacts related to Hugh here. There will also be a few photographs of Hugh growing up in the community. Try a search on the main page and see if any have been loaded to date.

Hugh Carlyle MOFFAT's"Dead Penny" - rather morbid nickname given to this bronze plaque sent to the family of WWI soldiers killed in action.

Hugh Carlyle MOFFAT's British War Medal, and the Victory Medal.

Hugh Carlyle MOFFAT died after three years at war - at the age of 17. See his story through these two newspaper clippings. Part One
